So I watched a video of Farmer Keith using DeWitt Landscape fabric with holes that were burned into it to plant lettuce, so I decided to try that myself. I spread out the fabric in between the garden beds, and burned holes in it using a butane torch. Then I transplanted some of my leggy lettuce from the greenhouse, spinach starts, and put seeds in the rest of the holes. I’m growing in this bed Bloomsdale Spinach, Little Gem Romaine, and Red and Green Salad Bowl Mixes from Botanical Interests.

I don’t do math well, so some of the holes were not 6″ apart, some to small and I had to retorch, but over all, I was happy with the result. It is the first time I’ve tried using this to keep weeds under control. We will see how it goes. This is the finished product, with the seed packets that I planted for my organic records. 🙂 We’ve had really warm days, and I have a frost blanket on these at night, so I’m hoping they survive transplant. I’ll check them in a few days to see how they are doing.
