I used the last of our first 50 2×4’s and have completed 2 beds, and 2/3rds of a 3rd bed so far. They are looking very nice! Hoping to have them all completed by the end of the year. It has been a job, but the longer I work on this, the more efficient I get. These beds are 4′ x 30′, with our newer beds are 4’x40′.

Today we had Layton Tree Service out and grind out the elm tree that was attempting to grow in the end of this bed. They did a good job. When they were done, I finshed building the bed.

We want to follow the organic production strictly. Although studies I’ve read show that the paint would probably not have been an issue farther away than 1″ from the bed, I don’t want to take any risk. Fortunately, all the wood was freshly painted this year on the bed walls I’m removing, and don’t show any indication of having chipped off into the soil. The beds will also be a lot more uniform in their construction, and these beds never had ends on them, which I’m adding to help keep the dirt from running out.
